Overview: The 2nd Annual ISTAT Sporting Clays Event is back, following the resounding success of last year’s inaugural event. We have moved the event to a new facility which we expect to be even nicer than last year’s venue. Once again, beginners and “never-evers” are strongly encouraged to come out, with ample instructors available and a fun, non-threatening and safe environment for everyone. In light of last year’s demand, we have increased the number of spaces available, but space is still limited. Event includes lunch and everything necessary for a good, safe time.
Additional details: The shooting range is located 30-40 minutes east of the Westin Kierland. Instruction, guns and all safety equipment (glasses, ear protection) will be provided. The Rio Salado Sportsman’s Club is one of the nicest in the country, with several different shooting areas, including sporting clays courses of various difficulties. Take part in the event that is called, "golf with a shotgun." After lunch concludes (at approximately 12:30 p.m.), buses will return to the Westin Kierland. Additional shooting will be available to those who wish to stay after lunch with a final departure for the Westin Kierland at approximately 3:00 p.m. (arriving back at the Westin Kierland by 4:00 p.m.).
Logistics: Buses will depart from the Grand Ballroom entrance (not the main guest entrance) of the Westin Kierland Hotel at 8:15 a.m. on Sunday, March 18. There will be no pickups at other conference overflow hotels. The Grand Ballroom entrance of the Westin Kierland is located around the corner from the main guest entrance to the left. The bus will return to the Westin Kierland by approximately 1:15 p.m. A final bus will depart the shooting range at approximately 3:00 p.m. and arrive back at the Westin Kierland by 4:00 p.m. for those who wish the opportunity for additional shooting after lunch. Non-alcoholic drinks and snacks will be provided upon arrival at the shooting grounds and a catered Southwestern lunch will be served at approximately 11:30 a.m. Participants should wear comfortable attire appropriate for a sunny, Arizona day with temperatures of 75-80 degrees. Sunglasses and a brimmed hat or baseball cap are recommended. Participants may bring and use their own shotguns but are responsible for their safe transport and complying with all relevant regulations.
Directions: The range is located at 3960 N Usery Pass Road, Mesa, AZ 85207 for mapping purposes. More detailed driving directions will be provided shortly.
