Airlines are on the largest jet-buying spree in the history of aviation, ordering more than 8,200 new planes with manufacturers Airbus SAS and The Boeing Co. in the past five years. There are now a combined 24 planes rolling off assembly lines each week, up from 11 a decade ago. And that rate is expected to keep climbing.

Hungary’s capital city airport is set to welcome a number of new airlines and further increase its route network during the S14 timetable. From the beginning of the summer season, Norwegian will be adding a fifth route to its Budapest network, launching a thrice-weekly service to London Gatwick.
India could ease restrictions that prevent some of its domestic airlines from flying on international services within a month, potentially benefiting start-ups set up by Singapore Airlines and Malaysia's AirAsia that aim to begin operations in 2014.

Former ISTAT Scholarship recipient Lulu Ferdous was recently selected as one of 200,000 applicants to become a potential "human ambassador" on a proposed Mars One mission. Ferdous' goal is to be on the first team of astronauts to go to Mars in 2024. ISTAT University is a certification process that prepares students to become business executives within ISTAT member companies. It offers enrolled students (studying in a business degree with an aviation focus) an ISTAT curriculum that exposes students to the nuances of aviation finance.

Universities provide the educational format while ISTAT members prepare a series of pre-recorded lectures on subjects directly related to our industry. In this format, ISTAT University is able to leverage the expertise and work universities already do – deliver directed content toward qualified students.

Stay tuned for more information coming soon regarding the ISTAT University.
Professional Development
Financial Post
What determines the probable future career success of individuals? Is it intelligence, technical knowledge and skills, their socio-economic background or educational success? Are the forces that make success the same for Generations X and Y as they are for the Baby Boomers? These questions have been researched extensively by recruiters, talent management experts and human behaviour researchers in the past decade. The answers now point to emotional competencies.

Different cultures can have radically different leadership styles, and international organizations would do well to understand them. From structured individualism in the U.S. to ringi-sho consensus in Japan, the charts seem intuitively correct, if not unilaterally true across a country.
Management Issues
The only thing that stays the same in business is change – and with the economy still uncertain, every day presents new challenges and opportunities. How managers adapt to the changing horizon can make the difference between surviving or thriving. In other words, the tried and true may have worked well up until now, but is it the best way to continue?
